Exterior paint in Texas fails from the prep, not the paint
South-facing and west-facing elevations in San Antonio take punishing UV, and the failure people blame on cheap paint is almost always inadequate preparation underneath it. Chalked surfaces that were not washed, bare wood that was not primed, caulk joints that were painted over instead of replaced. Good paint over bad prep fails on the same schedule as bad paint.

Flooring over a slab needs the slab checked first
Moisture moves through a concrete slab, especially on the older San Antonio homes where no vapor barrier was installed under it. Installing hardwood or LVP over a slab that is passing moisture gets you cupping, gaps, or adhesive failure — sometimes a year later. Testing slab moisture and flatness before the material is ordered is a small step that prevents an expensive one.

- How often does exterior paint need redoing in San Antonio?
- It depends heavily on exposure and on how well the previous job was prepped. South and west elevations take the most UV and typically show wear first. A properly prepared exterior should last considerably longer than one where the prep was skipped, which is why two quotes for the same house can differ so much.
- Can I put hardwood over a concrete slab?
- Sometimes, with the right subfloor system and after moisture testing. Engineered hardwood and LVP handle slab moisture far better than solid hardwood. The step that matters is testing the slab before ordering material, because slab moisture is the usual cause of flooring failure here.
- Do you repair drywall before painting?
- Yes, and matching existing texture is part of it. A patch that is smooth against a knockdown or orange-peel wall is visible from across the room no matter how good the paint is.
